If you’ve ever used this little cloth to clean your windows, or anything really, you know from experience just how amazing it is. While it may seem like magic… the science behind this little cloth is almost as fascinating as discovering how a magic trick actually works.

Norwex microfiber is a synthetic fiber that is created by combining polyester and polyamide (nylon). These materials are combined in liquid form and extruded into a fine strand that when examined under a microscope appears in the shape of a star. Those bundles are then split into ultra-fine single fibers (as fine as 1/200th the width of a human hair) using specialized technology. Finally, these fibers are woven together with a specialized knitting process to produce the Norwex microfiber cloths.

To put into perspective the sheer volume of fiber in this little cloth, if you could unravel the fiber in one enviro cloth into a single strand, it would practically stretch from Los Angeles, California to Nashville, TN in the USA, or from Vancouver, BC to Ottawa, ON in Canada!

The super fine fibers in this little cloth are able to get into the tiny cracks and crevices that you can’t even see on surfaces and remove dirt and debris that larger fibers are simply incapable of reaching. When used with water, this little cloth clings to dirt, grime and bacteria, trapping it in the cloth and lifting it away from the surface. These particles remain trapped in the cloth until you supersaturate it, forcing the fibers open and releasing the debris so that it can be washed away by a mild detergent.

Provided you follow the proper care instructions, this little cloth is extremely durable, allowing you to reuse it to effectively clean one surface after another for years without wearing out.

But wait… there’s more!

Not only is this little cloth made with advanced microfiber technology… it also encorporates Norwex’s patented Backloc technology! Through this unique innovation, silver is embedded into this little cloth giving it extra self-sanitizing properties.

The antibacterial properties of silver have long been know. Even Cleopatra would only eat off of silver dishes, since people who ate off of silver were recongnized as being healthier. It’s said that this is where the term ‘born with a silver spoon in his mouth’ originates, since people who were wealthy enough to eat off of silver did so for the health benefits.

In fact, silver inhibits bacteria’s ability to process oxygen, thus inhibiting the ability of bacteria to reproduce. Since bacterium have a very short lifespan, the organisms quickly die when they are in contact with silver, thus eliminating bacteria naturally and effectively. So, with the silver particles embedded in the microfiber cloth, (as long as the cloth is cared for according to instructions) the bacteria cannot thrive and grow in this little cloth. Result: the Norwex Backloc microfiber cloths don’t get stinky and slimy and gross like many traditional cleaning cloths tend to do! And… because it’s added while the synthetic material is in liquid form, the silver is a permanent part of the fiber. It will never wear away, or rub off during use of the cloth.
